Hi Ngoc, tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hi, my name is Ngoc Dao. I’m a traditional artist, a private art instructor and a mom. You may also know me as Dobino Art from YouTube. Besides making art, I also enjoy photography, traveling, gardening, and baking.

How long have you been creating watercolor, acrylic, & gouache art? What inspired you to become an artist?
I’ve been drawing my whole life, but painting with watercolor, acrylic, & gouache is something I picked up a few years ago. I’ve been enjoying working with these mediums ever since.

Creating art just makes me so happy! Since I was a little girl, I have always loved creating art and I wanted to grow up making art for a living. It’s part of my life and it’s something I can’t live without. A few years back, I was introduced to Studio Ghibli movies by my husband, and I love their background art so much that they’ve been my biggest inspirations to become an artist.

What does art mean to you?
For me, art is something that makes people feel happy, inspired and can relate to. On my sad days, looking at my favorite artworks from my favorite artists just brightens up my days so much. On my happy days, they are also my inspiration.

Which medium do you enjoy creating with the most?
I enjoy working with all mediums, but so far gouache is my favorite medium! I love painting with gouache!

What is your favorite GenCrafts product to use?
I really enjoy painting with Gencrafts Gouache, watercolor and acrylic paints, but my favorite Gencrafts product would be the acrylic paint tubes. I just love the vibrancy of the colors and they are so much fun to paint with!

What advice do you have for beginner artists?
As an art instructor, I often see my beginner students afraid of making mistakes, giving up on their work too early and getting frustrated because they expect too much from their beginner skills. I always tell my students:
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes because your mistakes help you learn. I've learned and grown so much from my own mistakes and I'm still learning from them. I love the famous Bob Ross quote: "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents."
Another advice is to be patient with the process and enjoy it rather than rushing to finish. Art is something you create with love and passion, a product of creativity, so allow time for it to come together.
And most importantly, don't forget to have fun. After all, having fun is what motivates people to create art or at least that motivates me to create more art.

Overall, what is your favorite part about the creative process?
The moment when I realized that I just learned something new from the process! It’s so rewarding!

 Tell us an interesting fact about your art!
Nature is my favorite subject when creating art, but people often say that I’m better at drawing people. I guess this must have something to do with my time during art school where I had to draw people most of the time, so I had more practice! I still love drawing people, it’s just that I love to paint nature a little bit more.

What has been your greatest accomplishment thus far, being an artist?
My greatest accomplishment of being an artist thus far is to be able to share my experiences and inspire other like minded individuals. To be able to teach beginner artists and help them grow creatively.
