How to: Blend, Activate, & Paint with Watercolor Paint Tubes
This tutorial demonstrates how to blend and activate watercolor paint using our set of 50 Watercolor Paint Tubes. It also demonstrates how to utilize the watercolor paint tubes to create 7 beautiful flowers! Color selection is completely up to you but the colors demonstrated in the video are listed in “List of Supplies” as well as the steps below.
Let's get started!
LIST OF SUPPLIES:
1. GenCrafts Set of 50 Watercolor Paint Tubes: W101, W102, W113, W116, W121, W122, W125, W140, W142, W145, W148, W150
2. A paintbrush
3. Cold-pressed Watercolor Paper
Blending & Activating Watercolors
Step 1: Remove the cap from the Watercolor Paint Tube and pierce the top with the back of the cap.
Step 2: Squeeze a little bit of paint into the different sections of the palette according to your desired color code sequence. Add additional colors if needed.
Step 3: Grab a paintbrush (a synthetic pointed round paint brush is used for demonstration)
Step 4: Select a color and set it in the center of your palette to be mixed.
Step 5: Gently dip and swirl your paint brush into your cup of water.
Step 6: Add the wet paint brush to your selected color and gently mix until you get a soup-like consistency.
Step 7: Paint your selected color onto a piece of watercolor paper
Creating 7 Flowers:
Feel free to use any colors that you want for the creation of your flowers. The colors mentioned below are the ones that were used in this Tutorial for your reference.
Step 8: For flower #1, mix W125 Magenta and W113 Crimson Red and start painting in a loose-spiral motion.
Step 9: Add some water to the brush and begin in the center of the spiral to bleed the color out.
Step 10: Add a little more pigment to the center.
Step 11: For the stem and leaves, mix W145 Light Green and W140 Forest Green together.
Step 12: Gently glide the tip of the paint brush for the stem(s)
Step 12: For the leaves lightly glide the center of the paint brush either towards you or away from you to create the shape of the leaves.
Step 13: For flower #2, mix W122 Violet, W150 White, and a little W142 Grey to create a milky lavender color.
Step 14: Begin by creating a U shape and add curvy lines to your liking as well as little dots on top of the lines (as shown in the image). Be sure to add a stem.
Step 15: For flower #3, use the color W101 Warm Yellow for the 4 petal flowers.
Step 16: Begin by lightly stroking the center of the brush to create the petals of the flower
Step 17: Next, use W140 Forest Green for the stems. Gently glide the tip of the paint brush to create the stems
Step 17: Again for the leaves, lightly glide the center of the paint brush either towards you or away from you to create the shape of the leaves.
Step 18: For flower #3, use the color W101 Warm Yellow for the 4 petal flowers.
Step 19: Begin by lightly stroking the center of the brush to create the petals of the flower
Step 20: Next, use W140 Forest Green for the stems. Gently glide the tip of the paint brush to create the stems
Step 21: Again for the leaves, lightly glide the center of the paint brush either towards you or away from you to create the shape of the leaves.
Step 22: For flower #4, begin with a few straight lines for the stem in W140 Forest Green
Step 23: For the petals, use W121 Purple and lightly stroke linear lines to create the shape of the flower petals.
Step 24: For flower #5, it is very similar to flower #3: Gently glide the tip of the paint brush to create the stems.
Step 25: Use W116 Blush and begin painting linear brush strokes to create a bloom at the top of the flower.
Step 26: For flower #5, it is very similar to flower #3: Gently glide the tip of the paint brush to create the stems.
Step 27: Use W116 Blush and begin painting linear brush strokes to create a bloom at the top of the flower.
Step 28: For flower #6, begin by moving your brush in a circular motion to create a berry shape
Step 29: Again for the stem gently glide the tip of the paint brush. For the leaves, lightly glide the center of the paint brush either towards you or away from you to create the shape of the leaves.
Step 30: Use W148 Dark Brown for adding dots to the berries. Simply use the tip of your brush and lightly dot onto the top of each berry.
Step 31: For flower #7 (Daisy) Use W102 Bright Yellow and pull the brush towards you four times to create the long petals
Step 32: Use W148 Dark Brown and create dots in a circular shape to create the stamen at the center of the flower
Step 33: Again for the stem, gently glide the tip of the paint brush. For the leaves, lightly glide the center of the paint brush either towards you or away from you to create the shape of the leaves.
